To say that 2021 has been a busy year for Agworld, would be an understatement. From introducing Frames by Agworld, onboarding many new businesses into the Agworld ecosystem as integration partners, having lots of new clients join us, and Agworld now forming part of the Semios family - 2021 has been a big year for us all!
Although Semios’ focus is mainly on the permanent cropping segment, Agworld has always been crop-agnostic as a platform, and we will continue to be crop-agnostic within the Semios group. In North America we have clients in every part of the continent, representing almost every crop grown, and we have seen a lot of growth in both row crops as well as permanent crops this past year. Some of the most spectacular growth in user numbers we’ve experienced has been in the Southern United States and, in order to support this growth even further moving into 2022, we’re very excited to have Luke Smithson join Agworld in the capacity of Senior Account Executive!
Luke Smithson is a true ‘Agtech veteran’, having spent the past 6 years with MapShots / AgStudio / Granular, initially as GIS specialist and most recently as Group Customer Success Manager for Granular. Luke holds a Bachelor of Agricultural Engineering from the University of Tennessee at Martin and resides in Humboldt, TN. I strongly believe that having people based in different regions with a wealth of local knowledge is paramount to achieving success for our clients, which is why Luke is such a great addition to the Agworld team.
When I asked Luke why he decided to join the Agworld team he told me that his passion lies in being part of a team that’s constantly evolving and improving: “Some people in agriculture think that technology is ‘all figured out’ and, in reality, it’s nowhere close. I don’t think we’ve even begun to scratch the surface yet when it comes to the possibilities for growers and everyone else involved.”
Luke continues: “I am the kind of person that needs to constantly learn; I don’t want to get too comfortable in my role and not be in a position where I constantly expand my skill set. I have witnessed Agworld’s rise in North America since they first moved here and have always been impressed by how well the Agworld product is tailored to the needs of users here. I look forward to being a part of the Agworld team and helping growers, agronomists & ag retailers join the Agworld platform.”
When Luke is not spending time with his wife and three children, he enjoys working on cars, hunting, and being a pitmaster! Fun facts about Luke are that he cooks at least 7 (!) turkeys for Thanksgiving and performed research for his senior year thesis at college on making moonshine for ethanol production and turning the distiller’s grain into cattle feed; sounds like the kind of research that would make my head spin… Welcome to Agworld Luke!
